In December 1606, the Virginia Company sends approximately 140 Englishmen to the New World to establish a colony. For 6 weeks storms and unfavorable winds keep their three small ships near the English coast. In March, the Englishmen arrive in the West Indies. On April 10, after exploring and taking on supplies, they sail northward. Finally at 4 a.m. on Sunday, April 26, more than 4 months after leaving England, they sight the coast of Virginia.
