Looking Up at the Two Towers - Swannnanoa Palace - Afton, VA 9-4-10
In 1949 Walter and Lao Russell leased the Palace, as it had been empty since 1932. Walter passed away in 1962 and Lao passed in 1988. Their organization decided to leave and gave up their lease in 1998.

Today the property is owned by J. F. Dulaney, Jr. of Charlottesville, who has been attempting to restore the property to its former glory.
Currently small group tours, open houses and weddings are being held on the property and there are plans for a bed-and-breakfast in the future.

It is reported the palace's name came from Sally May's love of swans.
