Docked Batteaus - Batteau Festival, Scottsville, VA 6-20-01
The James River Batteau Festival is more than 15 to 20 crews steering their boats down the James River. It is more about building an awareness of the James River as an important natural resource, and to call attention to its significance to the beginnings of Virginia and the nation. Each year batteaux leave Lynchburg and make their way to Maidens Landing in Goochland County. After a hot day in the sun, crews tie their crafts to trees hugging the river’s edge, pitch their tents, prepare a meal and entertain themselves with stories and music.
