Laughing Boy and Goat, Attilio Piccirilli *1866-1945), Lead, 1936 - Brookgreen Gardens, Murrells Inlet, SC 3-25-11
The eldest of six Piccirilli brothers, Attilio headed the family's stone carving studio. He was the sculptor of several important monumental and architectural works including the Maine Monument and figures on the facade of The Brooklyn Museum. This engaging little sculpture was designed not as a commission, but on a creative impulse of the sculptor. There are two other examples - one in bronze, and the other in marble.
