Wood Nymphs, Henry Hering (1874-1949), Aluminum, 1932 - Brookgreen Gardens, Murrells Inlet, SC 3-25-11
Hering worked for sculptor Philip Martiny, then studied with Augustus Saint-Gaudens, eventually becoming his assistant. He completed several of the coin design commissions given to Saint-Gaudens, perfecting his skill in the art of low relief. He was married to sculptor Elsie Ward, another assistant of Saint-Gaudens. There is a pair of Wood Nymphs with one planted at each end of the planted bed.
