Wood Nymphs, Henry Hering (1874-1949), Aluminum, 1932 - Brookgreen Gardens, Murrells Inlet, SC 3-25-11
Hering worked for sculptor Philip Martiny, then studied with Augustus Saint-Gaudens, eventually becoming his assistant. He completed several of the coin design commissions given to Saint-Gaudens, perfecting his skill in the art of low relief. He was married to sculptor Elsie Ward, another assistant of Saint-Gaudens. There is a pair of Wood Nymphs with one planted at each end of the planted bed.

Riders of the Dawn, Adolph Alexander Weinman (1870-1952), Indiana limestone, 1940-1942) - Brookgreen Gardens, Murrells Inlet, SC 3-25-11
Excelling as an architectural sculptor, Weinman created some of his finest work for public buildings including friezes for the Supreme Court and pediments for the National Archives and Post Office Buildings. This piece presents the joyous spirit of a new day and youthful vigor, embodied by two powerful stallions ridden by young men. The strong muscles of horses and riders create intricate patterns of light and shade as the sun crosses the sky each day.
