Saint Francis, Julian Hoke Harris (1906-1987), Bronze, 1962 - Brookgreen Gardens, Murrells Inlet, SC 3-25-11 A native of Georgia, Julian was a relative of the author Joel Chandler Harris. He studied architecture and had a teaching career at the GA Institute of Technology that paralleled his career in sculpture. Able to blend successfully his knowledge of the two disciplines, he created many sculptures for public buildings. Harris' skill in portraiture and bas-relief resulted in innovative medallic art designs that led to important comissions such as the inaugral medal for President Jimmy Carter. - The Nature In Us

Gardens Reservoir - Brookgreen Gardens, Murrells Inlet, SC 3-25-11
This fountain occupies the site of the original plantation house which was burned in 1901. A subsequent modern structure which replaced it has been removed. It serves as the main reservoir for the distribution of water to all points of the garden.
