2012 Critters at Bluebird Cove

Male Yellow-bellied Sapsucker on Holly Tree at Front Porch
This winter visitor to our habitat is not always fondly thought of since they're drilling of holes around a trunk can cause the plant to die from being girdled. This happened to one of our pyracantha (Firethorn) bushes. They are really beautiful birds though and they enjoy our suet feeders, so hopefully they'll eat less sap which is why they drill the holes in the trunks of trees and large bushes.
