Juvenile Male Northern Cardinal This is one of quite a few new cardinals in our habitat. This is the busiest year we've had on cardinal babies. This one began to feed itself over a week ago and is now bringing in the color of the male. He still sits with the female sister most of the time. She was in another area of this bush that's at our breakfast window.
Some Critter Nesting Under the Front Porch We needed to replace some boards on the front porch steps and when Randal and Charlie took them off, they discovered a huge nest of leaves. Oh how I wanted to dig through it and find out what was living in it. There was definitely something moving around as I was looking at it and taking pictures, so I figured it was a nocturnal animal. Looked liked squirrel work, but I don't think they would nest under a porch and they wouldn't be sleeping during the day. The opening to get to this area was less than 2 inches as you can see by the other photo, so that limits larger animals. Any ideas? Leave a comment below.
Some Critter Is Nesting Under Front Porch The opening to get to this area was less than 2 inches as you can see here. Look at the center 2x4 and see the whiter board that meets against it. That eliminates larger animals. It's a perfect place for mice, since I put ground food under the other end of the porch, so the birds, squirrels, etc. can get to it but the deer can't. Any ideas?
